Message by the Ambassador
Dear members of the Belgian community and friends of Belgium,
« Time flies… » this is an expression which is often used at this time of the year, when looking back at what has been achieved for a whole year and planning for a new year ahead of us. I can assure you that time seems to fly even faster for a newly arrived ambassador in Japan. I can hardly believe that we are already so close to the end of the year celebrations!
Yet, I should not be that surprised, as it is the numerous activities and projects that make time fly so fast. And these first four months for me in Japan were indeed quite rich in events! To name but a few: from the presentation of my own credentials to H.M. the Emperor to the Enthronement Ceremony in the presence of T.T.M.M. the King and the Queen; from a very lively and warm Belgian Beer Weekend to many company contacts, visits, events, seminars and galas…; passing by university contacts - including a beautiful Mount Takao hiking - exhibitions, concerts, and many encounters with our trusted partners like the Belgian-Luxemburg Chamber of Commerce in Japan (BLCCJ), the Japan-Belgium Society (JBS), the Belgium-Japan Association (BJA), the Belgian-Japanese Academic Society (BJAS), … and Saint Nicholas!
This is far from being exhaustive but it shows the dynamism and diversity of the Belgian presence and relations here in Japan, which make life and work here in Tokyo so fascinating.
As you all know, this is not going to stop at the end of 2019… on the contrary! We are all very much looking forward to very exciting events in 2020, including of course the Olympic and Paralympic Games! Stay in touch as there are plenty of interesting activities that will happen at that time, including a Belgium House in front of the Embassy and, we hope, a strong delegation of very talented athletes coming from Belgium to win as many medals as possible!
But before jumping or flying to the next summer, I would like to wish you all very happy end of the year celebrations, with your friends or families and the realization of your most beautiful dreams and hopes in 2020.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!
