WBI Scholarship 2026-2027
Moreover, Wallonia-Brussels International is offering 3 scholarships for postgraduate specialization or research stay within a doctorate of 12 months each to Japanese students. Candidates must hold a university degree and have distinguished themselves during their studies. The scholarships cover all fields of study. You can find a list of eligible academic establishments here.
The scholarship will include:
- a monthly allowance of 1217.33 EUR;
- a monthly allowance for the accommodation of 400 EUR;
- installation allowance of 123.95 EUR;
- cost of excess luggage (paid only once) of 247.89 EUR;
- travel costs of 24.79 EUR per month;
- tuition fee for the university/higher education institution: up to 835 EUR;
- costs in relation to the thesis: up to 500 EUR;
- health insurance (with the exception of dental care and chronic disease), personal liability insurance (only valid within Belgium) and repatriation insurance;
- return travel costs (economy class, roundtrip capital to capital): up to 1800 EUR.
Eligibility requirements:
- he/she must be in the possession of a masters degree (which gives access to doctoral studies).
The following documents must be included in the application:
- a detailed curriculum vitae;
- a detailed motivation and study plan;
- a copy of degrees and official transcripts;
- two acceptance letters, one from the institution in Japan, the other from the host institution in Belgium;
- one or more recommendation letters are welcome but optional;
- a summary or excerpt of the masters thesis or dissertation (if any);
- a list of publications (if any).
Candidates must submit their application in French or English to the Embassy of Belgium no later than 27 February 2026 at 12:00 hrs., using the application form below. A preliminary written and oral selection procedure will be organized by the Embassy early March 2026.

The Centre for Security, Diplomacy and Strategy (CSDS) at VUB is offering scholarships to Japanese students to study on the Brussels School of Governance’s BA and MA programmes. The Japan Chair of the CSDS promotes political and security cooperation between Japan and Europe, focusing specifically on the EU and NATO. For more information, check the website of the CSDS.
